Questions people ask
What does it cost to submit a case?
Nothing. Submitting is free, keeping your case file is free, and there is nothing to buy at any point. California Attorney Registry is paid by attorneys who advertise on it, never by the public.
Will an attorney definitely review my case?
No. Attorneys search the matters that have been filed and choose which ones to review, so a submission is never a guarantee that any attorney will take it on or respond. Nothing is assigned or matched, and the registry never recommends an attorney to you or you to an attorney. You are free to contact any attorney in the directory yourself at any time, at no cost.
Is what I write confidential?
No. Submitting a case file does not create an attorney-client relationship, and what you write is not confidential or privileged. Write enough for an attorney to understand the situation, and leave out anything you would not want read by someone who is not yet your lawyer.
Do I have to create a password?
No. Your email address is your sign-in. We send you a link, you click it, and your case file opens. There is no password to create, remember, or have stolen.
Can I change or delete my case file later?
Yes. Your case file is yours. You can read it back, edit anything, or delete it permanently at any time from your case file page.
What if I already have an attorney?
Then this is not for you, and the form will say so. While you are represented in a matter, other attorneys should not be reviewing it or contacting you about it under California Rule of Professional Conduct 4.2. If you have concerns about your current attorney, the State Bar of California handles those directly.
Does the registry give legal advice?
No. California Attorney Registry publishes legal information and attorney records drawn from the official State Bar of California roll. It is not a law firm, does not represent anyone, and cannot tell you whether you have a claim.
